Who can join?

Although the Engineering Society of UTS has a heavy Engineering student influence we welcome new members from other faculties and even from outside of UTS. There are no restrictions to being a member of the UTS Engineering Society (in fact, if you attend any of our events you automatically become a member!).

What we do

 SOCIALLY:

The Engineering Society of UTS holds various Social Functions throughout the year to allow our members to relax and mingle with fellow students. Many students forge their friendships through our events (or use them as an excuse to skip a lecture). We have students from various years and alumni that attend these parties, and this is an excellent opportunity to make new contacts.

A few events that we do are:

  • Free Member BBQ's
  • Harbour Cruises
  • Cocktail Nights
  • Pool competitions
  • Poker nights
  • Beer and Prawn
  • Beer Tasting
  • End Of Year Balls

ACADEMICALLY:
Well you did come to university to learn in the first place! What can you get from us academically?

  • Get ahead for your internships and graduate careers by attending our sponsor lunches. These are small lecture’s held by industry representatives head hunting for potential employee’s – then after the talk, mingle and network at the accompanying lunch.
  • 2nd Hand bookstore? For those of you who remember this – once we get the new website up and running, it should be back for all to enjoy.
  • Course Representatives – we are attempting a FAQ or Wiki type interface were you can ask questions about your course to one of our reps. If this succeeds, we’ll let you know.

FINANCIALLY:
Hexed heavily, and with such a long degree, we’ve evolved to deal with student financial pressures. We offer exclusive member discounts to keep the small change going:

  • Beer card: Get your 10th beer free with the Engsoc beer card – sponsored by Tooheys. That’s a saving of 9% - add the 15% Advantage Program discount and you’ll save 24%! Beer goes’ down from $4.20 a schooner to $3.20 in a fit of mathematical discount magic! And every 100 cards submitted gets the club a free keg of beer to share with our members!
  • Stockmarket card: 2nd and 3rd meals using the stockmarket cards are 50% off!

Who are we affiliated to?

The Engineering Society of UTS is an independant body that represents it's members interest. We are solely committed to provided them the best possible time at University (and sometimes beyond). But without the following organisations we would not be where we are today.

  • The UTS Union: THE social student organisation. It supplies some of the best campus parties, as well as supplying the Engineering Society with the resources to hold our own events. Join the Advantage Program to recieve the most out of your university experience.
  • The Faculty of Engineering and IT, UTS: The faculty to be a part of. It produces the most patents at UTS and is a leader of Practice based education in it's field. The UTS Engineering Society closely liases with the faculty to ensure the students recieve the best time possible at UTS.
